Camp Mitchell
April 19 - 21, 2002

The Scouts went camping at the Camp Mitchell Boy Scout property north of Deltona.  The main official activities were fire building, orienteering, a scavenger hunt (decided by a poem!) and a nature hike. There were a few calls of nature, visitors, and of course, the usual flag raising, camp cooking and camp fire skits were enjoyed. More photos and info below!

Scavenger Hunt
The Green Bars made up an interesting list for the scavenger hunt:

· golf ball
· piece of rope
· spanish moss
· charred wood
· oak leaf
· acorn
· 4 inch twig (did it have to be exactly 4 inches??)
· fern
· air plant
· pine cone
· dead insect (is it dead yet??)
· monkey fuzz
· piece of paper
· Scout Handbook
· a match
· tent stake
· shrubbery
· sand wedge (some 'interpretation' was needed here...)
· log lever (more 'interpretation' and 'invention' needed here ...)
· blade of grass
· propane explosive shield (some 'creative efforts' applied here...)
· mushroom
· 14 line poem about "ants in love" (more creative efforts needed here...)
· food wrapper
· trash bag
· pen or pencil
· a skit or song for the camp fire

The scavenger hunt got more interesting (and the Scouts more inventive) when the incentive was announced. The patrols worked hard, and either found or invented all the objects. The winner was determined based on the judging of the poem by the adult patrol. The Lions won with their poem "The Love of Ants".

The Love of Ants (used without the permission of the members of the Lion Patrol)

Two ants in love
As sweet as a dove!
They crawl up pants
Because they are ants.
They have their romance
During their dance.
They are tiny, though
Sweet and tiny.
They will not harm
except maybe a bite on the arm.
The ants have their romance
up the pants
of a gentlemen
in love with a women.
